Council Tax bill example
Below is a visual example of a Council Tax bill, explaining how it has been calculated, and how much you need to pay and when. There is also a key further down the page, numbered from 1 - 11 explaining each part of the bill.

Key
- This is the financial year that your bill relates to and the date it was issued.
- Name and address of the person responsible for paying the bill.
- Address of the property which the charge relates to.
- Your Council Tax account number - please retain this information as you will need it if you contact us about your bill.
- The Council Tax band for the property
- How the Council Tax charge is calculated. This may also include a precept for Hetton Town Council for applicable residents.
- Overall percentage increase in the total Council Tax charge for your band compared to the previous year.
- Total charge for property.
- A breakdown of the bill showing the charges for the property and period it covers, plus any discounts, exemptions or adjustments made to your bill.
- Any amounts with the letters 'CR' after, means that the amount will be deducted from your bill. Read more on discounts and exemptions.
- Anything without CR means adjustments will be added to your bill. - The actual amount you need to pay.
- Details of payments due.
If you have arranged to pay via Direct Debit, it will say 'Thank you for paying by direct debit - this bill is for your information only'.
