Planned System Maintenance - Limited Service

Sunderland City Council will be carrying out planned system maintenance from 12 noon on Friday 5th June until 7am on Tuesday 9th June. During this period, we will only be able to respond to urgent enquiries. If your enquiry is not urgent, please contact us before or after these times when full services will be available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Public weighbridge

The public weighbridge is operated by Gateshead Council in conjunction with Sunderland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Newcastle councils. It is available to the public, companies or caravan owners. There's no need to make an appointment to weigh a vehicle, just drive on and collect your weight ticket from the weighbridge office.

The weighbridge has a 50 tonne capacity and has a 15 metre deck, with easy vehicular access. The weighbridge is located at: Metrology Laboratory Saltmeadows Road Gateshead NE8 3AH Opening times Monday to Thursday, 8am to 4pm Friday 8am to 3pm Cost The charge is tiered and is dependent upon the weight of the vehicle. Operators can have an account with the laboratory and be invoiced on a monthly basis.
