Planned System Maintenance - Limited Service

Sunderland City Council will be carrying out planned system maintenance from 12 noon on Friday 5th June until 7am on Tuesday 9th June. During this period, we will only be able to respond to urgent enquiries. If your enquiry is not urgent, please contact us before or after these times when full services will be available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Pedestrian crossings

The council is responsible for a range of activity in relation to traffic management and road safety.

Pedestrian crossings and safe routes to school

It is our duty to provide and maintain pedestrian crossings and also road crossings for cycle and pedestrian routes, as well as the lowering of kerbs.

All road safety education is provided by the council, and as in cycling proficiency we arrange the relevant publicity and training.

School Crossing Patrols

Making sure children are safe on their journey to and from school is vital. The school crossing patrol's or lollipop men/women as they are often known, help thousands of children and adults cross busy roads near schools every day, making the city a safer place.

Traffic Management

We develop and maintain a programme of schemes for both safety, and traffic management and control. We deal with service requests for yellow lines, crossings or traffic calming.
