About The School Meals Service
The Sunderland School Meals Team is part of Sunderland City Council. We provide over 15,000 meals a day to children and young people across Sunderland in 104 different schools.

Cost of a School Meal
Meals cost just £1.70 per day for primary and nursery school pupils and £1.80 per day for secondary school pupils.

Nutrition
Our specialist dietician ensures that all meals exceed the high nutritional standards set by the government to ensure your child receives a healthy balanced meal every day.

Food in Schools Team
The Food in Schools Team uses an innovative and exciting programme of activities to work with pupils across Sunderland to promote healthy eating and improve school meal uptake.

School Meals

Staff
Our local staff are friendly and approachable and passionate about the food they provide. All staff are trained in food hygiene and school cooks are trained in Nutrition & Health Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (C.I.E.H) Level 2 to enable them to offer guidance about how to choose a balanced diet and encourage children to try new things.
 
Parent and Governor Consultations
We always want to hear what you think of the service and how we can make it even better for you and your children.

We are holding a series of parent consultation sessions across the city during the coming year so that you can have your say. Come along and find out more about your child's school lunch, sample some of the dishes and tell us what you think.

Sessions will run from 1.30pm -2.30pm and again from 4pm -5pm on the following dates to enable as many people as possible to attend.

4 November 2008 - Washington Old Hall
6 November 2008 - Sunderland Customer Service Centre (Bunny Hill)
11 February 2008 - Houghton Sports Centre
12 February 2008 - Raich Carter Centre
11 March 2009 - Aquatic Centre
3 June 2009 - Venue TBC
4 June 2009 - Sunderland Tennis Centre
