Planned System Maintenance - Limited Service

Sunderland City Council will be carrying out planned system maintenance from 12 noon on Friday 5th June until 7am on Tuesday 9th June. Embark on a culinary adventure with our 16-hour Healthy cooking around the world course, held in the vibrant Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food Kitchen at the Beacon of Light. 

Designed for both adults and families, this hands-on course brings together the joy of cooking with the richness of cultural learning. You'll explore healthy, budget-friendly recipes inspired by cuisines from across the globe—while also gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures, traditions, and backgrounds. 

Throughout the course, you'll: 

  • Learn to prepare nutritious dishes from around the world 
  • Discover new ingredients, herbs, and spices to boost flavour and health 
  • Adapt traditional meals to be healthier and more affordable 
  • Build practical cooking skills you can use every day 
  • Strengthen your English skills through reading recipes, expanding food-related vocabulary, and sharing stories 
  • Improve your Maths skills by practising measuring, weighing, timing, and budgeting for ingredients 
  • Explore and appreciate cultural diversity through food and shared stories 

This course goes beyond cooking—it's about bringing people together, celebrating different cultures, and promoting understanding and respect for others through the universal language of food.
