What does your role involve?

It involves supporting colleagues and family members regarding their mental health and wellbeing, being alert and checking they are ok, then being able to signpost them either to Occupational Health or local community services.

What kind of help have you given to someone?

While I am a MHFA in the workplace, the knowledge also allows me to support people in the community. In a recent conversation I spoke with a local person who is finding the COVID-19 very overwhelming, I suggested that they contact Sunderland Wellbeing IAPT service to access telephone counselling. I also was interviewed for Sunderland Recovery College giving messages of hope and self-care.

How do you think the role has made a difference to you?

The role had made a positive impact on my life I am very much aware of my mental health and the need to look after it by doing the five ways for wellbeing everyday connect, take notice, keep learning, be active and give.

Anything else to add?

This role makes me feel happy that I am giving something back and I have the skills and the knowledge to help people with their mental health.
