Knowledge test

Before being issued with a licence for the first time all drivers must first complete our online training and pass a knowledge test based on what they have learnt.  The test consists of questions including the Highway Code, safeguarding, equality/disability, driver conduct, Licensing Law, Ranks and numeracy.

There is a fee of £11.00 and you will need to have access to a debit or credit card. 

Once you have successfully completed the online modules, you will be provided with a link to the test booking form. There is a fee of £23.00 and you will need to have access to a debit or credit card.  

Please do not book onto the test until you are confident that you are able to pass, as some sections of the knowledge test require a score of 100% in order to pass. The section on ranks in Sunderland is a requirement for both  Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licences. 

Once you pass the test you will be given a certificate to upload to your application form. 

If you fail the test, a re-sit can be taken with a fee of £23.00
