Safeguarding Adult Reviews

A Safeguarding Adult Review is held when an adult at risk of abuse dies or is seriously injured, and abuse or neglect is known or suspected to be a factor. This was previously called a serious case review.

The review looks at how complex or difficult cases were handled, with input from all the different organisations that had contact with the  adult at risk of abuse.

The purpose of a safeguarding adult review is to:

  • Establish whether there are lessons to be learnt from a case about how local professionals and organisations work together.
  • Identify clearly what those lessons are, how they will be acted on, and what is expected to change as a result.
  • Improve how agencies work together.
  • Recommendations will also be regularly reviewed to make sure they are happening as agreed by all organisations.
