Professional Development Package (ADHD, ASD, Dementia, Safeguarding Adults & Children) 

This course is suitable for those wishing for a career change, to refresh previous training and experience or to regain employment after a career break. The course covers a range of areas including awareness courses on ADHD, Autism, Dementia, Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children. The content is aligned with the knowledge and skills required for the adult and childcare sector. 

The course is a 5-week course, running one day per week, with a focus on a particular area each week, starting with ADHD Awareness. Learners will explore the main characteristics and causes of ADHD and strategies to support children/adults with this condition. In week two learners will explore the main characteristics of ASD and strategies to support children/adults with this condition. In week 3 learners with explore the main characteristics of Dementia, the types and causes of Dementia and strategies to support people with this condition. In week 4 learners will look at the principles of Safeguarding Adults, how to recognise signs of abuse and how to respond to suspected or alleged abuse. Learners will explore the national and local context of safeguarding and protection from abuse and ways to reduce the likelihood of abuse. Learners will look at how to recognise and report unsafe practices and the principles of online safety. In week 5 we will look at the above but in relation to Safeguarding Children.  

At the end of each session earners will also examine how each area can impact the family and what support is available within the Sunderland community.
