Some of Europe's finest young tennis players will soon be playing in Sunderland

For the fifth year Sunderland's Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre plays host to the under-twelve girl's finals of the annual Tennis Winter Cup (8-10 Feb) which has helped launch the careers of some of the world's greatest tennis players since the first competition was held in 1977.

Entries are now open for this year's ACTIVE Sunderland BIG 3K Run on 12 May

Now in its third year, the annual event takes runners of all ages and abilities along the same closed city centre roads as the 10K and half marathon which start off later that morning, with all those taking part sharing the same 'big race' experience as the other competitors in the Sunderland City Runs programme which this year also includes the first Sunderland City 5K.

Construction begins on three new Community Football Hubs in Sunderland

Community football in Sunderland is being given a major boost with the start on site for three new multi-million pound Football Hubs at Community North Sports Complex (Downhill), Ford Quarry and The Northern Area Playing Fields (Washington) by Esh Construction.
