In Sunderland, recycling rates have increased over the last ten years, but we need to achieve 50% recycling rates by 2020.
If everyone recycled a few more household items regularly, and squashed down their boxes and bottles before recycling, there would be enough room in the blue bin to recycle more.
We would like residents to make a pledge to put the right rubbish in the right bin.
Every month we will give a spot prize of £50 of shopping vouchers to five lucky residents, chosen at random, who have fulfilled their pledge to put the right rubbish in the right bin.

At the roadshows you can also be in with a chance of winning £1000, by guessing how many recyclable items are in a wheelie bin.

Terms and conditions : Entrants must be aged over 18 or over, live within the Sunderland boundaries and have pledged to recycle more by putting the right rubbish in the right bin and agreed to the team checking their bin on collection day. The recipients of the prizes may have their name and address area (e.g. Roker, Houghton, Grangetown) published on the council website and used in publicity. Entrants must provide their full name and address. .
