Sadly, due to the current Government restrictions on public gatherings visits to the Hall of Remembrance is restricted for private appointments only. Floral tributes are welcomed, however these must be placed outside in the courtyard during these times.
To commemorate those cremated at Sunderland's crematorium we have provided Books of Remembrance.
There are four volumes, one for each quarter of the year.
The books contain leaves composed of the finest sheepskin parchment, bound in calf vellum and richly tooled in gold leaf, with the cover protected by cabochons of semi-precious stones.
Two pages per book are allocated to each day of the year, and the book is displayed in the Hall of Remembrance located at Sunderland Crematorium and laid open at the corresponding day, in a protective glass case, so that the memorial entries may be seen on each anniversary.
Entries of five lines may include an emblem such as a Regimental Badge or be embellished with a delicate water colour painting which may be of significance to the family.
As loved ones may not always be able to visit the Hall of Remembrance in person on the anniversary date, an electronic Book of Remembrance is available in the hall whereby you are able to search for an entry using the month and date and view it regardless of when you visit. You can also search on line.
