Restart Grants (One-off payment 1 April onwards)
In the March budget, the Government announced the provision of further funding to support businesses through Restart Grants. Government have confirmed that these grants cannot be paid until 1 April 2021. There are two strands to this grant scheme:
Strand 1 (non-essential retail) One-off grants of up to £6,000 will be paid to non-essential retail business premises, to help them reopen safely.
Strand 2 (other sectors) One-off grants of up to £18,000 will be paid to hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym business premises, which may open later under plans set out in the Government's roadmap and will be more impacted by restrictions when they do reopen.
The Restart Grant scheme supports businesses that are predominantly reliant on delivering in-person services for the general public at those business premises. Additionally, in the scheme criteria published by Government, businesses must have their own Rateable Value (RV) and should have been trading on 1 April 2021.
Funding from Government will ensure all eligible businesses with a RV are able to be supported at the grant levels published. Businesses not within the rating system are not eligible for a grant.
Businesses that are in administration, insolvent or where a striking-off notice has been made, are also not eligible for funding under this scheme.
Please see link to further guidance and eligibility criteria, whilst the detailed guidance can be found here Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG), Restart Grant, Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG): guidance for local authorities - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). Amongst other matters, the guidance sets out examples of the types of business that are eligible for the grants but also those types of business which are not eligible. Please consider the guidance before applying.
Government have confirmed that all applications for the Restart Grants MUST be submitted by 30 June 2021. In Sunderland, eligible businesses who have previously received grants under the various Local Restrictions Support Grant schemes do not need to reapply.
