From 15 June, restrictions on many businesses and venues were lifted meaning that they can now be open for trade. In the main, this is non-essential retail.
However, for certain other businesses and venues, the restrictions remain in place and they should remain closed. This includes many businesses in the personal care, leisure and hospitality industries. The full list of what must remain closed is available online at www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close-guidance.
Report a business that is open when it should be closed
If you have any concerns about a business in Sunderland that is open before it is allowed to be then you can report it to us using our Covid-19 Business restriction reporting form. You don't have to provide us with your contact details but if you do, they will be kept confidential and only used to update you.
All businesses that are allowed to be open can only do so if they are 'covid secure'. This means that they have assessed the risks and put measures in place to make sure that they can operate safely. This includes looking after the safety of employees and customers.
Report a business that isn't Covid secure
If you have any concerns that a business is not covid secure then you can report this to either the Council or to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), depending on the type of business it is.
Businesses that open to the public (retail shops and other non-essential businesses), should be reported to us using our Covid-19 Business restriction reporting form. You don't have to provide us with your contact details but if you do, they will be kept confidential and only used to update you.
Other types of business premises, (including some warehouse operations and manufacturing premises) should be reported to the Health and Safety Executive at https://www.hse.gov.uk/contact/concerns.html.
Detailed information is available online at GOV.UK - Working safely during coronavirus (Covid-19) to help different business sectors understand what they must do to be 'covid secure'.
