Vote and tell everyone else about our great parks.

Have you got a favourite city park?

Voting has opened so you can help show the rest of the country how much Sunderland loves its parks.

Now, the Green Flag Awards are asking the nation to have its say and decide which parks and green spaces should receive the People's Choice Award for being the UK's favourites.

All you have to do is go here - www.greenflagaward.org  - and find the Sunderland parks on the map and click the voting button. Don't forget to tell others too.

Or click on ours here: Barnes,  Herrington,  Hetton Lyons,  Mowbray  and Roker.

Voting closes on Monday 30 September with winners announced on Tuesday 15 October.

After 'mystery shopper' visits earlier this year, Sunderland City Council received Green Flag status with awards going to: Barnes, Hetton Lyons Country Park, Roker Park, Mowbray Park and Herrington Country Park.

Councillor Amy Wilson, the City Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport who oversees the city parks, said: "We do well in the annual Green Flags Awards and now it's over to you to have your vote.

"There's a lot of staff, volunteers and park friends who all work very hard to maintain our parks and make them what we know and love. It only takes a moment to make a choice about your favourite.

"And, yes, I've made my choice and voted for my favourite."

The Green Flag Awards scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy,  under licence from the Department of Communities and Local Government, in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful, Keep Wales Tidy and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.

Paul Todd, International Green Flag Award Manager said: "This year we have had more Green Flag Award winning sites than ever before, The People's Choice Award is an opportunity to show how much your favourite park means to you. Make your voice heard and vote now."

Last year saw tens of thousands of people voting for their favourite park, with winners coming from all across the UK, from London to Lanarkshire.
