NOTICE OF INTENTION TO APPLY FOR CONFIRMATION OF BYELAWS

Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964; Section 19

Local Government Act 1972; Section 236

NOTICE is hereby given that Sunderland City Council has made Public Libraries Byelaws under section 19 of the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964 and that, in accordance with section 236 of the Local Government Act 1972, it intends to apply to the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport for confirmation of those byelaws.

Application for confirmation of the byelaws will be made on or shortly after 1st April 2019.

The byelaws will not come into effect unless and until they are confirmed by the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State may confirm, or refuse to confirm, the byelaws submitted for confirmation and may fix the date on which the byelaws are to come into operation. If no date is so fixed, the byelaws shall come into operation at the expiration of one month from the date of their confirmation.

A copy of the byelaws has been placed on deposit at the Council's Customer Services Centre, 31-32 Fawcett Street, Sunderland, SR1 1RE where it may be inspected free of charge between the hours of 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

A copy of the byelaws may be obtained upon request upon payment of the sum of £1.30. Copies may also be viewed on the Council's website.
