The Farringdon Row Development Framework proposes phases of mixed development types in a city centre location.
The project comprises 450 new homes, 7000m² of office space, a 100 room hotel and 1000m² of retail and leisure space.The site occupies a highly prominent location between Sunderland City Centre and the River Wear. The overall vision is to create a high quality, attractive and sustainable living and working environment, which will add a new dimension to the urban environment of Sunderland.
In order to co-ordinate the redevelopment, the arc (the former Area Regeneration Company for Sunderland) has prepared a Development Framework for the site. This document was the subject of a six week public consultation exercise by the City Council in March 2006.The Development Framework was adopted as Interim Planning Policy in July 2006. This document will form the basis for further consultation in view of bringing it forward as a Supplementary Planning Document.
The Development Framework sets out strategic development principles for the redevelopment of the site. It will be used to assist the council when determining planning applications for future development within this location.
With effect from March 2011 Sunderland arc ceased to exist. Areas covered by Sunderland arc now fall within the remit of the City Council.
