Carton Recycling Scheme

Sunderland City Council operate a recycle collection scheme for cartons.  We were in fact the first ‘bring’ scheme for these packs in England.

15 containers are located around the City for milk, juice, soup and dessert cartons which greatly enhance Sunderland’s recycling facilities. These containers have been donated by SIG Combibloc Ltd of Houghton-le-Spring, one of the major producers of beverage cartons.

We are asking householders to rinse out the carton, drain it and then flatten by pulling out the ‘ears’ – this will utilise the space within the dedicated ‘bring bank’ effectively.

The black, 1100 litre capacity containers will be located at the following ‘bring’ sites:

Morrisons – Doxford Park
Sainsbury – Silksworth
Civic Amenity Site – Millfield
Galleries Shopping Centre – Washington
Ocean Park – Seaburn
Bunny Hill Centre - Downhill Lane
Asda - Leechmere Road
B&Q Hypermarket - Washington
Co-op Car Park - Houghton
Northumbria Centre, Stephenson Road - Washington
Shoulder of Mutton Car Park - Shiney Row
Wessington Travel Inn Car Park, Wessington Way - Sunderland
Campground Waste Reception Site
Hetton Centre Car Park, Welfare Road - Hetton
South Hylton House - South Hylton (Staff use only)
