Sunderland
Youth Offending Service is a multi-agency partnership between Sunderland
City Council, Northumbria Police, Northumbria Probation Service and
Sunderland Health Authority. The
Service works with young people between the ages of 10-17 years, and their
families, to:-
- Prevent
offending by children and young people by working with those at risk.
- Provide
programmes of intervention to directly challenge offending and
anti-social behaviour.
The
three multi-agency teams within the Service consist of Social Workers,
Probation Officers, Housing Officers, Education professionals, Health
professionals, and Police Officers.
The principal aim of the Service is 'to prevent offending by
children and young people'.
The way in which the Service will achieve this aim is set out in
the annual Youth Justice Plan, which includes the allocated
budget, staffing structures, services to be provided, and objectives,
performance measures and targets to be met.
The plan also outlines how the youth justice provisions of the
Crime and Disorder Act 1998 will be delivered in the Sunderland area over
the current year.
