Books on Wheels Service

If you are a resident of Sunderland and are unable to get to a library, you can apply for the Books on Wheels Service by contacting any of the libraries in the table below.

The service visits each reader once every four weeks with a selection of books chosen to suit the individual.  Large print books, and spoken word cassettes,  are also available.  Special requests can be made and any book may be reserved.

The Books on Wheels Service operates via Sunderland Public Libraries in partnership with the WRVS.  Library staff are responsible for choosing the books and materials and the WRVS are responsible for the delivery of books and materials to clients.

The service is provided for clients who are unable to access the main library services, either permanently or on a temporary basis, for example due to a stay in hospital.
