Wildspace Volunteers

We organize activities on Local Nature Reserves Fulwell Quarry, Hylton Dene and Tunstall Hills in Sunderland, Barmston Pond in Washington and Hetton Bogs in Hetton-le-Hole. Conservation volunteers can take part in events (walks, crafts) and conservation tasks (surveys, hedge coppicing). Training will be provided for each task.

The emphasis is on enjoyment, no one will be asked to work outside their capabilities. Tasks run between 10.30am and 4pm. Free transport is provided from the Civic Centre or volunteers can make their own way to the LNR. Please confirm by Thursday afternoon prior to the task your means of transport. Please wear walking or Wellington boots and bring warm and waterproof clothing. Volunteers must bring a packed lunch with them. Hot drinks will be provided.

Volunteer Group Volunteer work days have included wildflower surveys at Hetton Bogs, craft activities at Durham County Show, tree planting at Tunstall Hills and a Hedgelaying training course. This winter promise to be as busy as ever! Have a look at the programme below to come and help Sunderland Wildspace Volunteers carry out vital site management on your Local Nature Reserve
