Cycle Bede’s Way and enjoy a great day out following the route of seventh century pilgrims.  Bede’s Cycle Way has been devised to link the Twin Anglo- Saxon monastery of St Peter’s in Wearmouth and St Paul’sin Jarrow, now a candidate World Heritage Site.  Follow a safe and enjoyable route through the Great North Forest, covering 13 miles of rich landscape, delightful seascape, rolling hills and meandering streams, combining both on and off road cycling.  This leaflet can be used to start the ride at either St Peter’s or St Paul’s churches and features an easy to use map of Bede’s Cycle Way.  Along the ride follow the Bede’s Way, Cycle Way and NCN 14 signs.

A full colour guide to the Stephenson Trail following the line of the world’s first railway designed for steam locomotives. 
The 17.7 km/ 11 mile trail leads from Elemore, over Sunderland’s  highest point at Warden Law, to the end of the line on the River Wear. This pack contains individual guides on:

Enjoy this 12 km/7.4 miles circular route which links town and country,  modern technology, industrial and cultural heritage, 
formal and informal leisure. It can be used independently, 
as a link to the wider public rights of way networks, or in part, 
for safe day to day access to and from work or school.

River Wear Trail

This leaflet guides you along the footpaths on both banks of the tidal River Wear, as it meanders for 16 km/10 miles from Fatfield at the     heart of the Great North Forest to the sea.

The Trail is linked to a network of paths, cycleways and bridleways. These offer you short, circular walks as well as links to long distance routes such as the Stephenson Trail, C2C Cycle Route and the  Weardale Way.
