Welcome to the Registrars section of the council's website.  We provide a service for the public to carry out their legal duties to register all births, deaths and still births which occurred in the Sunderland Registration District.  We are also responsible for registering and conducting all civil marriages/civil partnerships which take place in the Register Office and approved premises, and register marriages in churches/registered buildings which do not have an authorised person to do so.

We hold records of births, deaths and marriages which have taken place in Sunderland dating back to 1st July 1837 and can issue copies of those records (certificates).
