Welcome to Sunderland City Council's Pest Control Services.

Wherever people live there may be creatures present that may be regarded as pests either because they cause public health problems or because they cause a nuisance. 

Sunderland City Council has no power to deal with 'stray' or feral cats, contact the external link Cat Protection League for advice.

Pest Control Service

Sunderland City Council aim to provide a service for public health significant pests, such as rats, mice, bedbugs and cockroaches within 48 hours of a request being received.

There is a further chargeable service for non public health significant pests such as fleas, wasps, bees, slugs and ants.  Details of current Fees and charges (PDF Icon pdf 65kb)

Dog Warden Service 

  • Responsible dog ownership
  • Dog Microchipping
  • Collection of stray dogs, which are then either returned to their owner or taken to West Hall Boarding Kennels (Telephone 0191 529 2369)

To report a stray dog (24 hour service) you can telephone 0300 1000 101

Environmental Services provide an online Pest Control assistance service which will help you identify the pest or you can request an officer to visit and treat various household pests.
