Team Read

Reflecting the National Year of Reading theme for August and with the 2008 Olympics on the horizon there will be a real buzz around sport this summer  Bearing this in mind the Summer Reading Challenge will stretch children’s imaginations to the max with fantastic books, creative activities and real rewards for reading fused with a dedicated website to connect children to the authors they’re reading.
 

You don’t have to be a sports fanatic to get excited about this challenge, its all about the joy of reading, and there are a whole range of sporting incentives and ideas with gold, silver and bronze levels to keep children reading.  Libraries will be getting off the starting blocks as library staff turn team coach, helping children become fast track readers.

Children and young people in Sunderland will be able to join the Summer Reading Challenge at any Library across the city throughout June and July.  Those signing up to take part will be under starters orders until the 19 July when the green light will be given to start the race to read six books and collect a number of great incentives including Mr Stretch and a team bag.  All children who cross the finishing line and complete the challenge by the 30 August will receive a medal and certificate.

Taking part in the challenge and all additional activities are free.
