Team Read Challenge - You don’t have to be a sports fanatic to get excited about this years Summer Reading Challenge, its all about the joy of reading.

There are a whole range of sporting incentives and ideas with gold, silver and bronze levels to keep children reading.  Libraries will be getting off the starting blocks as library staff turn team coach, helping children become fast track readers.  Download the information leaflet. ( pdf 577 kb)

National Year of Reading - 2008 is the National Year of Reading which is a national campaign to help build a greater love of reading, highlighting the benefits that reading for pleasure and purpose can bring to people of all ages. In the coming months all libraries in Sunderland will be holding a full programme of events to help people discover the joy of books and reading. This months theme is Reading Escapes where reading can help you escape to another world.

Staff Uniforms - Sunderland Public Libraries are asking for your opinions on staff uniforms, please fill in the questionnaire ( pdf 26 kb) and return it to any service point

Make a Noise in Libraries 7 to 20 July - As part of the Make a Noise in Libraries fortnight, there will be information from the RNIB located in each library and a CD copy of the latest issue of Switched On available for loan. If you are registered Blind or Partially Sighted you can borrow six free talking books or music items from any library, there are also two Visually Impaired Persons Reading Groups 

Silksworth Library will be temporarily relocated at Silksworth Community Centre from Tuesday 25 March 2008.
