Applications for licences permitting highway projections can be made by contacting the Highways Section of the Development and Regeneration Directorate via telephone on 0191 5531261 or by emailing highwaymaintenance@sunderland.gov.uk 

Applications should be accompanied by the following : 

• A fee of £100.00 payable to the City of Sunderland upon application to cover the costs of administration \ legal costs.
• Evidence of the prospective Licensee’s public liability insurance cover to the value of £5 million.
• A completed indemnity form signed by the prospective Licensee.
• Details of the proposed canopies \ awnings particularly with regard to height above the publicly maintainable highway, the distance that the projections extend over the highway and the clearance between the projections from the nearest edge of the carriageway.
