  Sunderland City Council has approximately 15,000 tonnes of salt stockpiled for the winter

• Gritting Routes

  The council prioritises road gritting so that the most important routes are treated first. As a result, when snow or ice is forecast or occurs, some local roads are not treated

• Grit Bins

  Grit bins are provided at locations of identified difficulty

• Winter Driving

  Drivers are urged to give way and treat City Council gritters as if they were emergency vehicles, especially in rush-hour snow showers. They are also advised to take extra care generally when conditions are bad
