Barnes Park can provide a great day out for all the family with wonderful walks, play areas, bowling greens, tennis courts and a cafe

Opened on 6 August 1909 this is the largest of the city's urban parks stretching just under 2 miles in length with a Victorian style bandstand.

In addition to the bandstand is a cannon situated near to the West End bowling greens which was dredged from the River Wear however there is little detailed history of the cannon.

Although its plaque suggests it dates from Civil War times.
