Supporting People
The Supporting People programme helps a wide range of people to live independently in the community by providing a range of support and assistance. The programme aims to provide a high quality of support that meets individual needs on both a long and a short term basis.

The Supporting People programme was launched in April 2003 by central government. It brought together a number of funding streams to finance the provision of housing related support for vulnerable people and to monitor the quality of the services provided.
Groups of vulnerable people include:
- Older people
- Young people at risk
- Teenage parents
- People with a physical or sensory disability
- People with a learning difficulty
- Homeless people and those at risk of homelessness
- People at risk of domestic violence
- People who misuse drugs and/or alcohol
- Ex-offenders and people at risk of offending
- Travellers
