A Park and Ride scheme is one whereby a council provides parking facilities outside the city centre with public transport links which enable you to park your vehicle and commute into the city centre using public transport.

This council does not operate such a scheme as there are many car parks in the city centre and there is generally little congestion in the city centre.

However, there are some car parks strategically placed next to Metro stations (such as the Civic Centre Car Park  next to Park Lane Metro station) which allow you to park your car safely and use the Metro to travel to other areas of the city and beyond.

More details on the Metro can be found on the Nexus website.

Sunderland Football Club Travel and Parking provides match day travel advice including Park and Ride facilities from Sunderland Enterprise Park on Wessington Way to the Stadium of Light and is free to both home and away supporters.
