The Gambling Act 2005 extended local authority responsibilities to include the licensing of premises where gambling takes place and the issuing of permits for other gambling.

We have produced guidance on the Act regarding what kind of permits or licences may be required.

Under the provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 (the "Act") the council is required to produce a Statement of Gambling Licensing Policy which sets out how we intend to administer the Act.

We consulted on the draft statement from 5 June 2006 to 25 August 2006 and the original Statement of Licensing Policy was approved by the Full Council on 22 November 2006, coming into effect on 31 January 2007. The policy is reviewed every three years.

A revised Statement of Licensing Policy came into effect on 31 January 2013.
