View north along the Two Rivers route from Roker
For the energetic or those seeking a challenge, a circular 77 mile (mostly off-road) cycle ride can be followed linking Sunderland with South Shields, Newcastle, Consett and Durham City.
The route can be followed using Sustrans 'Three Rivers' Map.
From Sunderland, follow the Two Rivers Cycleway to South Shields and then follow either the north or south of the river to Newcastle Quayside and
the swing bridge. Follow the north side of the river to the Scotswood Bridge, beside
the Metro Centre. Two beautiful paths (the Derwent Walk and Lanchester Valley Walk) take you up to 260m at Consett and down to historic Durham City.
Care is necessary through Durham and Gilesgate before reaching Pittington and the Sunderland boundary.
