So you think Climate Change is a load of hot air? |
| The average person in Sunderland is responsible for
emitting 10g of carbon dioxide every 90 seconds - that's enough
to fill one balloon. Over a year, that would add up to 350,000
balloons from every person in Sunderland! Climate change is real and happening here in the North East. Local weather records show that temperatures in the North East have increased by 0.5˚c over the past 150 years. And being a city by the sea, Sunderland will have to deal with rising sea levels, and greater chances of flooding on the River Wear. Scientists now agree that humans are responsible for climate change, because of the greenhouse gases we produce from burning fossil fuels - like gas, coal, oil - in our everyday lives. If we could see these gases, maybe we’d take more notice of our everyday emissions. Follow the links below for more information on tackling climate change in Sunderland. |
