Beacon Status, is granted to organisations that demonstrate a clear vision, excellent services and a willingness to innovate within a specific theme.  It exists to share good practice enabling organisations to learn from each other and deliver high quality services to all.

Beacon Status has been awarded to Sunderland City Council for;

• Reducing Health Inequalities - 2008-2009
• Culture and Sport for Hard to Reach Groups - 2006-2007
