Directions to the City From: North Route: Tyne Tunnel/A19 Depart Tyne Tunnel and follow A1 9 Sunderland for approx. 4 miles. Take A1231 Sunderland/Gateshead exit and turn left at the roundabout (A1231 Sunderland). Follow A1231 City Centre signposting, crossing the river, for approx. 4 miles. Then follow the signs for Teesside (A19) and at the 4th set of traffic signals turn left, signposted Civic Centre. The Civic Centre is on the left-hand side. Park here, St. Thomas Street is a five minute walk away. From: Newcastle Airport Route A696/A69/A 1 Depart Newcastle Airport on A696 for 1 mile then join A1 /A69 (South) for approx. 6 miles (past Metrocentre). Take first Sunderland exit, turn right at the roundabout and join A1231 to Sunderland, crossing over A19. Follow A1231 City Centre signposting, crossing the river, for approx. 4 miles. Then follow the signs for Teesside (A19) and at the 4th set of traffic signals turn left, signposted Civic Centre. The Civic Centre is on the left-hand side.
