Sunderland in a new
light
As it aims to become one of the best places to live in the UK, Sunderland is building a new image for itself, an image that reflects its green environment, its light and airy location by the sea, its technological revolution and its smarter attitude to city living.
The way people see Sunderland, its image in the outside world, is crucial to its regeneration and development. To help promote the city and its new image Sunderland City Council has produced a four-minute film showing what the city has to offer.
The film shows the city’s enviable costal location with marine activities such as surfing and canoeing. The coast also forms the backdrop for the largest free airshow in Europe, the Sunderland International Airshow. Short-listed as a World Heritage site St Peter’s Church is one of the UK’s first stone built churches, this along with Washington Old Hall, home to the direct ancestors of the first president of the United States, give a hint of Sunderland’s heritage. The film also highlights the North East’s largest theatre, the Sunderland Empire and the Winter Gardens where a tropical rainforest flourishes.
