A community based organisation managed by local people for local people, providing education training, employment and volunteer opportunities, using community development practices and principles. The Hetton Town Trust has risen from the former Eppleton Colliery Welfare Organisation. The Trust is responsible for managing a range of facilities within the Hetton Centre, this means that any money raised from grant applications and from hire of the facilities, is paid directly back into the community thus helping regeneration and sustainability. The Office of the Third Sector was created in May 2006 in recognition of the increasingly important role the third sector plays in both society and the economy. The Sandhill Centre is the first complex of its kind in the country and aims to provide learning and leisure opportunities with access for all members of the local community.
Our Governors and staff are committed to providing the best possible education for all of our pupils. Our staff are highly professional, hard working and dedicated. In addition to the regular school curriculum, they provide numerous extra opportunities and activities to benefit all our pupils. The South Forum was set up in 2005 and is a voluntary community group working in the voluntary sector of Sunderland. It is made up of local people, workers and organisations.
The Sunderland Centre for Voluntary Service aims to support voluntary organisations, in the City to function more effectively.
This site is designed for children and young people living in Sunderland who are disabled, have special educational needs, or a long term health condition, and their families. It will also be a useful resource for the professionals working with them. Sunderland Community Network is a network of voluntary community and faith sector groups operating within the City of Sunderland. The Compact was established in England in 1998 and exists at national, regional and local levels. The Compact is a code of good practice that governs relationships between central government and the voluntary and community sector. The Sunderland Compact will be a code of practice between the voluntary and community sector and wider partners in the Sunderland Partnership.

Help can also be found on a range of subjects which directly effect your ability to learn such as transport childcare and finance. We are a Self Advocacy Group for people with learning disabilities. Self advocacy is about people speaking up for themselves. However most of our work is about Group Advocacy.
The forum has three main aims and work which has been undertaken is as follows: The Centre is a local voluntary organisation that exists to promote, support and develop volunteering in Sunderland and surrounding areas. We actively recruit volunteers from all sections of the community and place them with local voluntary organisations who are seeking volunteers to help with their work. We also support and advise these organisations on good practice when working with volunteers. Sure Start is the Government’s programme to deliver the best start in life for every child by bringing together early education, childcare, health and family support. Urban Forum is an umbrella body for community and voluntary groups with interests in urban and regional policy, especially regeneration. It was set up in 1994 as the national voluntary organisation through which local and central government could relate to the community and voluntary sectors on such issues. New an exciting website for the West area and Millfield Ward of Sunderland Youthnet is part of the City of Sunderland's Communities of Interest Project (COI). Content is maintained by the website club form Hetton School. The Sunderland Youth Offending Service works with young people between the ages of 10 to 17 years, their families and relevant professionals to assist with young people who, because of alleged or actual offending, have become involved in the Criminal Justice System and prevent offending by children and young people by working with those at risk.
