Travelling to and from school or college

Travelling assistance may be available to pupils and students resident in the city of Sunderland in certain circumstances.

Travel to school (ages 4-16) There are a number of areas of support relating to:-
  1. the distance travelled between home and school
  2. personal financial circumstances and
  3. pupils with special educational needs
  4. school buses

Travel to school/college (ages 16-19) For students travelling to school (6th form) or, to college, there are a number of funding assistance programmes.
An independent travel training scheme has also been established in the area. This is intended to assist in training young people to travel on their own and to advise of the advantages of travelling independently.

Travel to college (ages 20-25) For students who are in full-time education and undertaking a course of further education to NVQ level 3 and equivalent there may be some support available depending upon distance travelled.

Travel to University Students undertaking a course of study at NVQ level 4 or above are generally ineligible for travel support, although there are some exceptions. View details (pdf document 23kb)
