Thank you for your interest
in becoming a school governor in Sunderland.
Governing bodies are made up of a number of different
types of governors including parents, staff and co-opted members. The Local
Education Authority also appoints a number of governors to each school in the
City.
The Council has a clear procedure for appointing L.E.A.
governors . A list of approved candidates for appointment as L.E.A. governors is
maintained and all appointments will now only be made from this approved list.
All prospective candidates are required to complete an
application form in support of their application to become an L.E.A. governor.
When considering applications to become an L.E.A. governor, the Council will
take into consideration:-
- whether the applicant has demonstrated that he/she is willing and able to devote
sufficient time to carry out the duties of a governor.
- whether the applicant has any previous educational, or other experience, which
will assist them in carrying out their duties as a governor.
- whether the applicant is a member of any local voluntary organisations or has
any other involvement in community activities.
- any other information the applicant submits in support of their application.
Alternatively, we can try to assist you in being recruited
as a co-opted governor of a school if you prefer. In considering
candidates for co-option, governing bodies will make sure that the governing
body reflect a balance of interests. It is desirable for the local business
community to be represented on the governing body.
If you would like to be considered as an L.E.A. or co-opted governor, please contact the Governors Support Team by post, fax or
phone (see governors homepage for contact details). Alternatively, you
may wish to apply on line (below).
