Hello and welcome to Sunderland Study Support web pages, it is hoped these pages enable you to find out more about the Schoolz Out! Programme, the benefits of Out of Out of School Hours Learning, what is happening in the City's Schools and How You Can Help.

Study Support, also known as Out of School Hours Learning Activities (OSHLA) and is described by the Department of Education and Skills (DfES) as 'activities that take place outside normal lessons which young people (aged 4 - 18) take part in voluntarily.  Study Support refers to many activities and its purpose is to improve young people's motivation, build their self-esteem and help them to become more effective learners.  Above all it aims to raise achievement.'

There are a wide range of interesting Out of School Hours Learning Activities taking place in each and every school in the City of Sunderland.

As well as these clubs being fun and enjoyable there has been Proven Research that indicates that properly co-ordinated activities does improve young peoples motivation, increases their confidence and self esteem and help them to become more effective learners - leading to raised achievement.

It is envisaged that these pages will be a useful tool for everyone that has an interest in Study Support/Out of School Hours Learning Activities.

We are continually trying to improve our pages and would welcome any comments you have, just email the Extended Schools Team on Extendedschools@sunderland.gov.uk
