This service works with a number of organisation to offer a range of learning opportunities across the City.
Family Learning - we work in partnership to offer parents, grandparents, guardians and carers a chance to learn alongside their children in a fun and friendly way. Programmes are offered in lots of settings, including schools, libraries, children’s centres and community venues.
Adult Learning - courses including arts and crafts, health and well-being, fitness and dance, digital photography and information technology are offered across Sunderland. Courses can provide opportunities to build confidence, learn for fun and enjoyment or offer routes to further learning and developing skills for employment.
Community based providers
( 23kb) are contracted to deliver courses.

Neighbourhood Learning - we aim to offer courses in local venues that are welcoming and easy to
reach. Family, Adult and Community Learning operates six Lifelong Learning Forums in Sunderland North, South, East, West, Washington and Coalfield areas. Each Forum has its own budget for family and adult learning, open to local groups, schools, libraries and others.
Skills for Life, Skills for Work, Skills for Independent Living - we offer courses that help adults brush up their English and Maths skills to support children at school, assist with job search, help with training at work and much more. We work with a number of organisation to offer inclusive learning opportunities to people with learning disabilities and/or difficulties across the City.
Special Projects - Family, Adult and Community Learning works in partnership with a wide range of agencies to develop and deliver projects aimed at improving access to learning and improving the skills of adults and families.
The Customer Service Centre at Bunny Hill in North Sunderland is home to a new Adult Learning and Skills centre, where newly equipped and furnished rooms are available to community groups and organisations.
We can support professional development of community based tutors and offer training funds to Voluntary and Community Sector organisations.
ACL works with other Sunderland City Council departments to offer sports, fitness and other courses in schools in libraries.
