The
Library service works in partnership with Adult and Community Learning,
the Workers' Educational Association, Age Concern, City of Sunderland
College and other learning providers to empower the learning community by
encouraging and promoting participation in lifelong learning. A
variety of courses, activities and events are provided in libraries
throughout the City.
The Library Service has developed Learning Centres and Electronic
Village Halls in 8 libraries and offers mobile ICT provision through the Libraries Information Access
Zone vehicle.

Adult Learning Courses
A wide variety of courses will begin in libraries during September. Courses such as
painting, scrapbooking, jewellery making, flower arranging and card craft will take place together with history, family history and DIY. Complimenting these will be ICT courses including word processing, email and internet. New to the programme this year will be 30 week accredited courses offered by Sunderland Women's Centre and supported by City of Sunderland College which will enhance the accredited courses already offered at Washington Millennium Centre and Hetton

Information, Advice and Guidance
Sunderland Public Libraries provide
weekly sessions at the Sandhill Centre and Washington Town Centre Libraries
offering information and advice on learning and work matters to anyone aged 20
or above who is yet to achieve their first level 2 qualification, equivalent to
5 GCSEs, graded A-C / NVQ Level 2.
Advice and information is available on courses, job opportunities, learning new
skills, writing CVs, filling in application forms and succeeding at interviews
Sessions are held:
Wednesday, 9.30 to12.00noon at Sandhill Centre
Library
Friday, 2.00 to 4.30pm at Washington Town Centre
Library
Every third Saturday in the month, between 9.30am and 3.00pm at City
Library and Arts Centre
