| Lindisfarne Gospels Return to the North East |
After 100’s of years the legendary Lindisfarne Gospels will be returning to the region when one of the
limited edition facsimile copies makes Sunderland its permanent residence. Created on Holy Island almost 1300 years ago, the gospels remain one of the principal achievements of Western art. The original manuscript can be seen in the British Library but now a perfect facsimile copy of all 518 pages, an exact replica of the original will be available for view within the City of Sunderland. The Gospels will be available for viewing within the City Library and Arts Centre, from Wednesday 5 November 2003. The Gospels will be housed within a glass presentation box for public view, and pages will be updated on a weekly basis. For further information contact the City Library and Arts
Centre
