| Sunderland City Council has a membership scheme that offers
leisure opportunities to the people of Sunderland. The scheme is
simple to understand, you choose one of two cards, Active8 or
Active8 Plus depending on your eligibility, and subscribe each year to
enjoy fantastic benefits at Sunderland's Sport and Leisure Facilities.
Active8
Everyone is entitled to an Active8 card, which offers the
following superb benefits:
- A whole year to get active at Sunderland's Sport and Leisure
Facilities
- Free spectating at any of the 10 Sport and Leisure Facilities
- One credit booking in any 14 day period at each Sport and
Leisure Facility
- Two pre-paid bookings in any 14 day period at each Sport and
Leisure Facility
- Use of your Active8 card as a deposit for equipment hire
- Discount on selected activities
Active8 Plus
The Active8 Plus card, which is only available to qualifying
residents of Sunderland, offers even more benefits including free of
charge usage and permanent discounted activities, please see below for
further information.

Swimming : Mondays & Wednesdays, 2.00pm - 4.00pm
Squash/Badminton : Mondays & Wednesdays, 2.00pm - 4.00pm (subject to
availability)
- Washington Leisure Centre -
Swimming : Weekdays, 9.00am - 11.30am
- Newcastle Road Baths -
Swimming : Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9.30am - 11.30am,
Tuesday and Friday, 2.00pm - 4.00pm
Slipper Baths : Wednesdays, 9.30am - 11.30am
- Puma Sunderland Tennis Centre -
Indoor Tennis : Mondays & Fridays, 10.00am - 12.15pm (subject
to availability)
Discounted activities are permanent and apply to swimming, sauna
and aquafit.
To qualify for an Active8 Plus card, you must satisfy parts A
and B below:
A. Resident in the City of Sunderland - You must be a member of a household that pays Council Tax to
Sunderland City Council. Proof of address required:
Driving Licence, Medical Card, Council Tax or Household Bill in your
name.
Juniors must show proof of address as above, in the name
of the signing adult. Students living in halls of residence must
show their University Registration slip or NUS card.
B. Fall into at least one of the following categories
providing necessary proof of entitlement:-
- Unemployed: Take your form to local unemployment office
to be signed and stamped
- Receiving Incapacity Benefit: Benefit Book or Form BF85A
- Receiving Income Support/Family Credit: Benefit Book or
Form
BF85A
- Receiving Council Tax/Housing Benefit: Letter from
Department
concerned
- Full time Student: NUS Card or Registration Slip
- Youth Trainee: Letter from Employer
- OAP/Disabled: Pension/Benefit Book
- 17 years of age or under: Birth Certificate and signature of
parent/guardian
- Receiving Family Credit: Medical Card
- Receiving Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit (must receive
both to qualify): Benefit Book
- Asylum Seekers: Asylum Registration Card
To become a member go along to any Leisure Centre with your proof
of entitlement (if applicable) and complete the application form
available from the Centre. |
