Recreational skiing and snowboarding is available for those who can completely
turn from one edge to the other whilst snowboarding on the main slope, and for those
who can competently snowplough, stop and turn on the main slope whilst
skiing. You can pay per hour or purchase an extended ski pass from reception for a half
day, full day, 7 days or 31 days.
Group Bookings
Sunderland Snowsports Centre can also cater for group bookings, with prices
based on a maximum 12 participants per lesson for skiing and 8 for
snowboarding. Group booking prices are available covering a number of categories
such as: adults, juniors, universities, colleges, schools, youth organisations
and we can provide you with a lesson for your child's birthday party. Should you
wish to bring a large group or party we will endeavour to provide you with the
number of instructors you require.
Equipment Hire
The centre holds a large stock of equipment specifically for use on snow,
including the latest models. This stock covers a range of sizes and can be hired
at competitive rates. All snow hire equipment must be booked in advance.
A
deposit will be required on collection of the equipment, this will be refunded
trusting the equipment be returned in reasonable condition.
Equipment Servicing
Sunderland Ski Centre offers a ski and snowboard repair and maintenance service,
all our ski technician staff are qualified, having attended manufacturers
courses. We offer a number of service options, pick up a price list from
reception. Club members receive discounts off ski and snowboarding servicing.
NOTE: All lessons/courses must be paid for at the time of booking, in
person or by telephone using a valid credit card 48 hours notice of
cancellation is required, refunds cannot be given inside of 48 hour period.
The F.I.S. - Ski Way Code to Safer Skiing
- Respect for others - Be aware of other skiers and snowboarders
- Control of speed - Ski or snowboard within the limits of your ability, stop
safely
- Choice of route - Pick your route carefully
- Overtaking - Allow space for others, skiers and snowboarders ahead have right of
way
- Starting or entering the slope - Look around to avoid other skiers or
snowboarders
- Stopping on the slope - Always stop at the side, after a fall always move
to the side
- Respect for signs and markings - Always obey signs, they provide
information for your safety
- Assistance at accidents - Be prepared to assist at accidents by informing
an instructor or centre staff
- Climbing or descending on foot - If this is necessary, keep to the side
- Identification - If you have witnessed an accident, please provide your
details.
Ski Slope Rules and Regulations
- Payment by cash, cheque (payable to the 'Sunderland City Council') or
credit card at time of booking.
- Cancellation fee at the full amount will be imposed on all lessons cancelled
within a 48 hour period.
- Cancellation by you for medical reasons within 48hrs accompanied by a
Doctor's certificate will result in a credit for the full amount or amount
remaining towards another booking at a mutually agreed time, any difference
will be payable by you.
- Any cancellation by the Centre will result in a full refund, a credit for
the full amount or transfer to a mutually agreed time.
- We cannot issue cash or credit card refunds after 24hrs from the date of
payment, refunds will be via a cheque to your home address.
- You are advised to turn up to your lesson 15 minutes early to collect your
equipment.
- Please advise reception when booking and the instructor prior to the
start of your lesson of any injuries/disabilities of special requirements.
- Gloves MUST be worn at all times.
- Arms and legs MUST be covered at all times.
- All recreational skiers MUST be able to 'snowplough, stop and turn', and
snowboarders MUST be competent in using both edges of the board. (You MUST
also sign the disclaimer before paying for your activity).
- All recreational skiers and snowboarders MUST adhere to the slope rules,
please see the signs displayed in the building and next to the ski lifts.
- Instruction, teaching or coaching is NOT permitted on any of the slopes by
members of the public. The above can only be given by Sunderland City Council
Ski and Snowboard School Employees who are qualified with the Snowsport
England or the British Snowboard Association.
- Our coaches and instructors will give you the guidance you need to
improve your skills. The actual content of each lesson or course will
be tailored to suit the need of the skiers or snowboarders in each
class. Because we all learn at different rates our instructors will
give you advice at the end of each lesson as to what you need to do next to
ensure you book onto the correct course or lesson.
- When booking a group lesson al skiers or snowboarders must be of the same
skiing or snowboarding standard.
- To receive the family rate this MUST consist of 2 adults and 2 juniors or 1
adult and 3 juniors, any additional family members will pay the additional
person rate as stated (juniors must be 7 years and above). All family members
MUST be of the same standard and enrolled on the same course
- Due to the changeover of instructors from one lesson to the next you may
encounter some delay at the start of your lesson, unfortunately this is
unavoidable particularly during our busiest periods.
- We cannot guarantee that the same instructor will be available to take
every date of every given course.
- Juniors are deemed as being under 16 years of age and will be eligible
for junior rates (proof of age must be produced if requested).
- When we supply equipment we need to know your weight, height, age, show
size, ability and any special requirements you may have. If you're
bringing children make sure that you have this information for them too.
