Green-it is a fortnightly service for the residents of Sunderland who have gardens. This scheme will make it easier to recycle green garden waste. This 'next step' in household waste management will make a big difference to the amount of rubbish we dispose of every day.
The Green Garden Waste Collection Service has been phased in to households with gardens from February 2005 to November 2006. Households with gardens have been supplied with a brown wheeled bin. The brown wheeled bin is collected every fortnight on the same day as your ordinary rubbish collection but the opposite fortnight to kerb-it collections. Collections will be less frequent between 1st December and 1st March each year when the green material generated reduces significantly. Large items of garden waste and timber can be disposed of in the separate containers provided at our Household Waste and Recycling Centres. Your garden waste will be made into soil conditioner and timber waste into chipboard. Alternatively, it can be disposed of through our special collection service by contacting our Contact Centre on 0191 520 5503. If the amount of garden waste is deemed excessive, a charge may be incurred. Our Contact Centre will advise you further.
