Planning Policy Section
The Planning Policy Section is responsible for
preparing and reviewing a range of development plans, compiling
information about land-use in Sunderland, as well as co-ordinating the
Council's approach to sustainable development.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparation of the Local Development Framework and review the
Unitary Development Plan
Assisting with preparation and monitoring of the Regional Spatial
Strategy
Liaising with neighbouring authorities and other agencies on
strategic planning matters
Preparing supplementary planning guidance
The development of policies and proposals on strategic issues,
including housing, employment land, green space and access to
services.
Providing policy advice on development proposals
Developing the Sustainable Development Strategy for the City
Supporting the Council and Community to reduce their
environmental impact
Supporting the Coalfield Communities Campaign
Developing sustainable transport and cycle network development.
Developing and maintaining the Land and Property Gazetteer and
other business and land use development monitoring datasets
Producing land availability information, particularly relating to
housing and business land
Providing an information service which includes Census and other
statistical information, Ordnance Survey maps, and aerial
photographs
