Some times it’s difficult to know who to contact if you have a question about trees. It depends on who owns the tree and where it is growing below is a summary of who to contact

Trees in parks, cemeteries etc

Trees in your garden

If you are a Sunderland Housing Group tenant and have a problem with a tree in your garden in the first instance you should contact your local housing office or ring 0191 5255000

If you need to check if a tree in you garden is protected, contact Sunderland City Council on 0191 5205506

If you are an owner occupier or private tenant the Council can not help with pruning trees in your garden. We can offer some advice on choosing a tree surgeon though.

For all complaints about trees from private areas overhanging and blocking pavements, contact Sunderland City Council Highways Department on 0191 5531528

Trees in pavements are normally owned by Sunderland City Council If the problem you are reporting is disruption to the footpath surface by tree roots, please contact the Highways Department on 0191 5531528

Dangerous trees

If a tree is imminently dangerous and poses a threat to the public highway, contact Sunderland City Council highways on 0191 5531528
