What happens after planning permission is granted?

It is the responsibility of the enforcement team to ensure that any development is being carried out in accordance with approved plans and any planning conditions attached to the planning decision notice are being complied with.

Any changes to the approved plans must first be agreed with the City Council.  A Planning Officer from the Development Control Section will be able to advise you further on this.  If the changes are significant, a new planning application may be required.

Whoever is carrying out the development should be familiar with the approved plans and any conditions attached to the planning decision.  Lack of knowledge of the approved plans is unlikely to be a defence to avoid prosecution.  If there is any doubt about what is required advice should be sought from the Development Control section before the works are started.

If the development is found not to be in accordance with the approved plans or planning conditions the City Council will formally request compliance within a time period in writing.  Failure to comply with this request may result in enforcement action being taken in one of several forms.
